Title:  The Top 3 Obstacles for Entrepreneurial Women

Speaker: Maria Gibbs, Co-Founder, Invanti

Maria Gibbs is the co-founder of INVANTI, a virtual startup studio that helps initiators figure out what they want to start and helps them navigate from pre-idea to pilot. She is also the managing partner of the Beta City Fund, a pre-seed fund that invests in companies that solve meaningful problems for residents and businesses in small and midsize cities. Over the past three years with INVANTI, she has recruited 12 pre-idea founders to South Bend from across the country, worked with each of them to define a problem within an impact area, and then supported them in launching a new company to solve it. As a part of the recently launched virtual studio, Maria has worked with an additional 53 founders since May of this year. Maria has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Duke University and an Ph.D. in structural engineering from the University of Notre Dame.

Title: The Top 3 Obstacles for Entrepreneurial Women

Maria will highlight three obstacles faced by entrepreneurial women by sharing her own story along with stories of some of the founders she has worked with. Obstacles she’ll cover include the assumption that male co-founders are the ‘real’ decision makers, designing a role for yourself that is energy-giving as opposed to filling in the gaps for the rest of the team, and taking care of mental health needs without stigmatizing yourself as weak or sensitive. She hopes this will be an engaging dialog with plenty of questions and comments from the group as none of us have clearcut answers to these challenging questions!
