SPARK it Up with Joan McClendon

The Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative (WEI) has made a lasting impact for Saint Mary’s College students and for the Michiana community since its inception in 2009. Through SPARK, WEI seeks to fulfill the unmet needs of high-potential, under-resourced women entrepreneurs in the local area. By increasing the entrepreneurial learning opportunities to create a business plan and assisting local women entrepreneurs with various aspects of their business–marketing, insurance, business plan, social media, financial/accounting skills, as well as other services, SPARK increases their chances of successfully starting or growing their own business.

The immediate measureable impact has been that 148 women completed the program with skills needed to launch a small business, and, in some cases, changing a hobby to a career.

WBOM has recently partnered with SPARK to assist with mentoring of new budding entrepreneurs going through the program.

Joan McClendon, Associate Director of WEI, will share information about the program, and its plans for the future.
